Тракторный отвал удобен тем, позволяет эксплуатировать тракторную технику круглый год, не прибегая к покупки специальных дорогостоящих машин отвал тракторный. На механических отвалах угловой поворот отвала выполняется вручную (трактористу нужно выйти из трактора и вручную повернуть отвал), гидравлика только поднимает его вверх и отпускает вниз. На гидравлических отвалах все манипуляции: поворот отвала, поднятие и опускание, производятся при помощи гидравлики из кабины водителя (трактористу не нужно выходить из трактора). Коммунальные отвалы чаще всего оборудуются гибкими резиновыми нижними ножами, которые предотвращают повреждение навесного оборудования от ударов при наезде на твердые предметы и неровности. Они (резиновые ножи) являются сменными.
